Entanglement control in hybrid optomechanical systems

We demonstrate the control of entanglement in a hybrid optomechanical system comprising an optical cavity with a mechanical end-mirror and an intracavity Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC). Pulsed laser light (tuned within realistic experimental conditions) is shown to induce an almost sixfold increase of the atom-mirror entanglement and to be responsible for interesting dynamics between such mesoscopic systems. In order to assess the advantages offered by the proposed control technique, we compare the time-dependent dynamics of the system under constant pumping with the evolution due to the modulated laser light.
Micellization properties of cardanol as a renewable co-surfactant

With the aim to improve the features of surfactant solutions in terms of sustainability and renewability we propose the use of hydrogenated natural and sustainable plant-derived cardanol as an additive to com- mercial surfactants. In the present study we demonstrated that its addition, in amounts as high as 10%, to commercial surfactants of different charge does not significantly affect surfactant properties. Conversely, the presence of hydrogenated cardanol can strongly affect spectrophotometric determination of CMC if preferential interactions with the dyes used take place. Drift velocity of free electrons in liquid argon

Abstract A measurement of the drift velocity of free electrons in liquid argon has been performed. Free electrons have been produced by photoelectric effect using laser light in a so-called “laser chamber”. The results on the drift velocity vd are given as a function of the electric field strength in the range 0.5 kV / cm ⩽| E |⩽12.6 kV / cm and the temperature in the range 87 K ⩽T⩽94 K . A global parametrization of v d (| E |,T) has been fitted to the data. A temperature dependence of the electron drift velocity is observed, with a mean value of Δ v d /( Δ T v d )=(−1.72±0.08)%/ K in the range of 87–94 K.

The selective line detection of a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor camera (CMOS) working in rolling shutter mode allows the rejection of out-of-focus and scattered light, thus reducing background signal during image formation. Abstract We report simultaneous oscillation in continuous wave at 1062 and 1337 nm in a Nd 3+ :YAl 3 (BO 3 ) 4 nonlinear crystal associated to the infrared laser channels 4 F 3/2 → 4 I 11/2 and 4 F 3/2 → 4 I 13/2 of Nd 3+ . Generation of yellow laser light at 592 nm produced by Type I self-sum-frequency-mixing of both fundamental infrared laser waves is observed under non-optimal phase matching conditions.
Laser spectroscopy and laser cooling of relativistic stored ion beams

Abstract Experiments with relativistic ions at the test storage ring TSR [P. Baumann et al., Nucl. Instr. and Meth. A268 (1988) 531] demonstrate the potential of the interaction of laser light with energetic stored ions for spectroscopic purposes as well as for manipulation of the ion velocity. Latest results for Li+ ions are reported. At the ion energies available at ESR [B. Franzke, Nucl. Instr. and Meth. B24 B25 (1987) 19] it will become possible to prepare and store bare ions up to U92+. Experiments using these exotic beams are discussed and an outlook to the situation at even higher energies is given.

Surface relief grating formation in amorphous As40S15Se45 and As2S3 films under 0.532 μm wavelength illumination

In this research we have studied the influence of λ = 0.532 μm laser light illumination on the formation and properties of surface relief gratings in amorphous As2S3 and As40Se15Se45 films, as well as a bulk As2S3 sample. The surface relief grating formation was studied for a wide range of grating periods (∼1 – ∼80 μm) for the variable thicknesses of the samples. The examination of the relief depth, Δh, and its dependence on the grating period at constant exposures shows that the impact of sample thickness could manifest itself as a shift in the optimal grating period at holographic surface relief formation (As2S3) and affect the process itself.
